Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Golf CLi.
What is the Golf CLi?
The Golf CLi is a variable which is calculated for players playing in a professional golf tournament. The resulting CLi figure for each player for the selected professional golf tournament is then used to rank the players. The resulting ranking list provides a snapshot of which players in the tournament's field have the best chances of playing well in the selected tournament. The golfer with the lowest CLi in the field is supposedly to have the best chance of playing well in the tournament.
What does CLi stand for?
CLi is short for 'Confidence Level Indicator'.
How is the Golf CLi calculated?
The Golf CLi is calculated using data, including, but not limited to, the results of a player in tournaments prior to the selected tournament and their results in previous instances of the selected tournament.
The actual CLi figure is a weighted average of the rankings for each variable used in the CLi formula.
Why use the Golf CLi?
The Golf CLi should be used to help users decide which players to select in their fantasy leagues.
Let's make it clear, the CLi is not an exact science at this time as we continue to refine the formula used to compute the CLi. So at this time it should just to be one of the tools users should use to whittle down their selection of golfers they want to put on their "team" for the selected tournament. So rather than having to pick from 156 players each week, users can select from the top 10-15 candidates.
Why pay money to create a customzied Golf CLi calculation when there is a free version?
- Customized calculation is based upon your selected settings of the Golf CLi variables for your selected tournament
- Receive data for the full field of players in a tournament rather than just the top 15 players in the standard Golf CLi
- Receive data in an Excel spreadsheet which can be sorted by your choice
- Data you can publish on your web site and add commentary to
How is the Golf CLi used?
To explain one of the ways to use the CLi ranking let's look at some real data. During the week of August 15, 2005, the US PGA Tour was in Canada playing the Bell Canadian Open, with the European PGA Tour in Germany playing the Linde German Masters. The top 15 players based upon CLi rankings for each tournament is as follows:

What do these two lists mean? They are saying that the best chance of playing well in these two tournaments lay in the hands of Vijay Singh for the Bell Canadian Open and David Howell for the Linde German Masters. It does not mean these players have the best chance of winning, just playing well.
For example, let's look at Joey Sindelar in the Bell Canadian Open. His CLi Figure is 14.00 and he is ranked 7th in the CLi ranking for the tournament. This is basically saying that 46% of the time he will place better than 14.00th place, which is the 7th best CLi Rank amongst the players in the tournament's field.
Why 46% of the time? Because that is the tournament's CLi strength percentage, as you will see above the list and under the tournament's name. The greater the amount of recent data that is used to calculated the CLi for a tournament, and the stronger the correlation in the data (trends), the higher the tournament's CLi strength percentage.
When is the Golf CLi posted each week?
The Golf CLi is posted each Tuesday with the CLi calculations of the tournaments that are played the coming week. If you want to see past CLi listings, you can go to the GolfInvestors web site to see it on the tournament's field analysis page.
What tournaments are shown on golfcli.com?
Only tournaments sanctioned by the US PGA Tour and the European PGA Tour are shown on golfcli.com. If you would like to see other tournaments which a CLi is calculated for, please check the GolfInvestors web site.
Who calculates / computes the Golf CLi?
Via it's GolfInvestors web site, GolfSolutions.com, LLC manages, calculates, and updates the Golf CLi for selected professional golf tournaments using data which GolfInvestors compiles.
What are the goals for the Golf CLi?
Here are the bullet pointed goals for the Golf CLi at this time:
- At least 5 players in the CLi top 15 rankings are ranked in the top 10 of the tournament results at the conclusion of the tournament
- No more than 2 players in the CLi top 15 rankings miss the cut
- The CLi top 15 rankings earning at least 45% of the tournament's purse (Note: the top 15 places in a tournament usually get around 65-70% of the tournament's purse)
These goals are what we use to determine if the Golf CLi is worth it for users and worth it for us to spend our time compiling it each week for golf tournaments.
What are the past results of the Golf CLi?
First of all, each golf cli calculation for a tournament is different based upon the 9 different configuration settings that a user chooses. John Mueller from GolfSolutions.com, LLC runs calculates the Golf CLi for each tournament. For each tournament he configures the 9 settings based upon what he thinks is best for that specific tournament.
So the general Golf CLi calculation results are based upon his own Golf CLi settings. You can see those historical results by going to the GolfInvestors web site and find the tournament(s) you are interested in and selecting the 'Field Analysis' link for that tournament. There is a Golf CLi result from on the Field Analysis page for each tournament that Mueller ran a Golf CLi calculation for. As well, if you look at the 'Results and Earnings' page for any tournament on GolfInvestors, you can see hte CLi column next to each player in the results.

Can I view the Golf CLi on my cell phone?
If your cell phone is WAP-enabled, you can view the Golf CLi from your cell phone. From your cell phone navigate to the http://golfcli.com web site and the basic contents of the site will be viewable in WAP format on your cell phone.
Can I put the Golf CLi on my web site or on my computer's desktop?
Yes, you can put the Golf CLi on your web site or on your computer's desktop using the 
RSS format. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for distributing content. If you do not have a web site but wish to see the Golf CLi on your desktop, you can do so with any RSS Reader that can view RSS data feeds.

Calling the following link without any variables will show a list of the current week's tournaments and the top 5 players in the CLi rank for each tournament:
To select a specific tour, use the "tour_id" variable with the url. To select the number of players to show, use the "num_players" variable with the url (the default is 5 players).
